This post is going to be a little departure from my uhm rather serious posts I have been writing as of late. Originally I was going to blog about something else but woke up happy and in a good mood so I wanted to think about something else to write about. Then I went tanning and the post came to me. So this is going to be rather Happy Mayhamish http://happymayhem.blogspot.com/ vs. Tale of Two Coinish. Like I said...there will be happy on this blog too.
After doing a few things around the house today and after talking with Jennie I decided that I should head out to the tanner. Yes I'm a fake and baker, but I live in Michigan where it is cold, dreary and has little sun this time of year. I needed to feel warmth and the sun again. Albeit fake... but it works. Once I got into my car I realized that like an idiot I had left my tanning lotion outside all night and it was in more of the popsicle variety then actual lotion. I wasn't too concerned because I knew I could buy a sample lotion once I got there. So I went into the store and asked the lady at the counter what type of sample she recommended for a person with sensitive skin. She told me about five different kinds of lotions that I could try. She had lotions with bronzer in it, she had lotions with glitter in them and then there was a lotion with bronzer, glitter, and a skin tinter. All of which I knew I didn't want. After all I don't want to look like a Christmas tree ornament with all that bronzer and glitter. I just want a nice little glow. I asked her if she had anything without all the "extras" then she handed me a little packet and told me to try this because and I quote "This only has a little tingle and a soft pink color to it" I finally figured what the hell lets live on the wild side and went with the lotion with a little tingle. Off to my room I went.
I got into my room, got undressed and opened up the little lotion packet. The lotion itself smelled like a tropical pina colada. Since I love Pina Colada's I thought that this lotion would be just fine. I first rubbed the lotion in on my legs expecting to get a shock from the 'tingle' but there was nothing. I then rubbed the lotion on my arms and also felt no tingle. I figured well the lady must be right and there would be no tingle. So I then rubbed the lotion on the rest of me, including my face. Since I am a 'safe' fake tanner I grabbed my eye protection and jumped into my bed. At this point I was staring to tingle just a little, but nothing major.
I turned up the radio and got situated in my bed. Even better it was all 80's music. I shut the top of the bed and was in my glory. I was nice and cozy warm while listening to 80's music. What more could I ask for?...The first 3 minutes of my tanning experience was very relaxing, then out of no where my skin felt like it was being attacked by millions of little fire ants. Was this the "little tingle" that she was telling me about. So now I'm squirming around in the tanning bed, itching my arms, legs, stomach, and chest trying to get the tingle to stop. Guess what...itching makes the tingle worse...much worse. Just as I was about to say screw this and stop tanning the itch/tingle began to calm down to almost nothing. I then finished up my minutes in the bed, but was grateful when the lights went off. Although I was a little worried as to what the 'pink glow' was going to make me look like. I got up and slowly opened up my eyes fulling expecting to look like a gianormous piece of hot pink bubble gum. After all there was only supposed to be a little tingle and not fire ants. Much to my surprise the pink glow just made me look nicely tan with yes a glow. The only thing the pink glow did to me was bring out the many freckles that I have and well there isn't much I can do about that. I did leave the tanner smelling like a Pina Colada and that really only made me want one to drink.
The moral of the story: Don't leave your tanning lotion in the car overnight if you live in Michigan in the middle of winter and moral two. Don't believe the lady at the counter when she says "This lotion only has a 'little' tingle" Yeah...sure it does!

I am so sorry! I tried the tingle lotion once- never again. :) Amber
That is so funny! Living in Minnesota I can relate to going to the fake-n-bake for a little sunny warmth! Ha, I've never tried the lotions though... I'll stay away from the "tingle" thanks to you!
Here in VA, I am getting so sick of the cold dreary sunless days. The beach is so close yet so far away. A little fake sun sounds like a good idea.
Very funny! I used to tan also and the "tingle" lotions scared me so I never used them. One time I went into the tanning bed, put on my (non-tingle)lotion and started tanning. Five minutes into the tan my butt starting burning and tingling.....it felt like it was on fire! I couldn't figure out what was going on....Needless to say when I jumped out of the bed and looked in the mirror I was shocked to see my bum bright red. On my way out I asked the girl at the front if they had replaced the bulbs and then sheepishly recounted my burning bum story and with a slight smirk she said that someone who used the bed before me must of used tingle lotion. The look of disgust on my face must of been pretty apparent because she said "on don't worry we always clean the beds really good but sometimes you can't get the tingle off!"
That's funny. I've only tanned twice and didn't like being closed into the tanning bed like that. I'm the whitest Floridian you'll ever see. :)
That is hilarious. I'm sorry about the lotion. Do they have any plain lotion with nothing in it? I haven't been to a tanning bed in years. It is unseasonably cold here in TN, we were at 8 degrees last week. That is just crazy weather here in the south. I'm needing some warm sunshine too.
Great post. Yeah it made me think of the post Happymayhem had. Glad you had a nice day even if the ants came marching in.
That is too funny!
Glad you had a good day.
Hugs,
Amanda
You are too funny! That tingle stuff is the worst :) Better defrost your lotion, for the next time.....

One spring/summer I got into the tanning thing. How addicting it can become. I tried a low tingly factor one, just a sample. BIG MISTAKE. So why do people like the tingle factors at all? Like you I itched and burned. It was terrible. Oh, and I continued to itch for the remainder of the day, even after a shower. It was no fun at all. Plain ole indoor tanning lotion is good for me.
Isn't the tingle supposed to enhance your tan? I can't remember.
LOL I've done that before and it is not fun! I was given some sort of cinnamon tanner as a sample when I was tanning and oh my goodness, that was the longest 15 minutes of my life! I felt like I was on fire.
I've only done the tanning bed once but I don't remember any tingling lotions! I guess I would of remembered that!! I bet your tan beautiful! Thanks for the laugh!

I used to go tanning...and loved it! It usually ended up being my 20 min. nap for the week! I might have to start going again...if not for the tan...I'll take it for the rest :) I'll stay away from the tingle lotion...thanks for the word up!
i have frozen tanning lotion too... Stinks!!! But I had once asked for a littl trial thing as well and was told that it had a bronzer... Well it turned me orange... like the tan froma bottle you get from the store.. not pretty!
LMAO, thanks for the laugh! I have done the same thing except for some reason I looked REALLY red when I got out, and stupid not to mention! And yeah the lady told me the SAME thing..a "little" tingle my ass!
Hahaha! Thats hilarious...Im right there with you on the tingle...its just to much. I dont know how many times I left w/o looking in the mirror only to discover my snazzy eye protection left me looking like a french fried raccoon. Having the 20 mins of relaxation can do wonders for the soul though.
Oh gosh this was funny. Did you just lay there? I would have been jumpin out of the bed and all around while slapping myself and hoping that nobody walked in to see my saggy skin being flung all around the room!
Ugh, the tingle factor. That stuff is crazy. It's been years since I worked at the salon but I think they even go up to a tingle factor 4 now. REALLY?!! Who would want to torture themselves with that stuff! And yes I think it does help the tan look because your skin is burning off and gets more color as you itch yourself into an oblivion!!! :) Thanks for the laugh, I loved the moral!
