#18-Question for Readers

I would like it if all of you who read my blog would answer a little question for me?

Should I add a music playlist to my blog? (pretty simple question if I do say so myself)

I have been thinking about adding one for a while, but then I started to hesitate a bit.
I hesitated because when I first started blogging it would scare the ever livin crap out of me when I would click on somebody's blog and the music would come blarring on through my computer speakers. Want to hear a funny story?...

One time I clicked to open a blog while going to take a drink of the best drink ever...Diet Coke. Anyways I brought the can up to my mouth in one had and clicked the link to open the blog with the other. BAM music blarring through my computer to a rather loud abnoxious song. I jumped so much that I ended up spilling my pop on the keyboard to my computer. (sorry Shawn, that's why the 'T' stuck for a while) It scared the beejeesies right out of me. At that moment I vowed that I would never put music on my blog. (I'm an extremely easy person to scare!)

Now I'm starting to think I want to put music on my blog. Everything else in my life has changed...why not change up my blog with the new design and add music? After the Diet Coke insident I decided to keep my speakers on a very low volume for the blogs that have music, especially if it a blog that I haven't read before. I now know most of the blogs that I read have music and know what to expect when the blog opens up. Just for the record I haven't been scared since that one time.

I just wanted some opinions on adding the music. I'm willing to wager that some people like the music while other's do not. Once I get a feel for what you all think I will make my choice.

******
In other news I had another massage today. One word: WONDERFUL!! I went to a different place today and it was so much better than last time, the massage table was even heated. The massage therapist didn't talk at all, it was so peaceful and so relaxing. I don't think I have felt that stressfree or relaxed since August 18 maybe even before. There were no other clients after me, so I got an extra 10 amazing minutes. During that time my face was gently massaged as well as my scalp. Sweet goodness did that feel terriffic! The therapist told me to take my time getting up. I almost cried when it was over...I didn't want her to stop. For a brief 70 minutes I felt no pain, no stress, no hurting heart, just a relaxed calm feeling. It was wonderful! Anyways I took my sweet time getting up. As soon as I stood up to get dressed I thought of Nancy and her last massage experience.(http://thenewlifeofnancy.blogspot.com/). A few weeks ago she had a massage that was wonderful as well, and when she was getting dressed she pulled a muscle in her back. OUCH! (keep in mind she is 30+weeks pregnant and I am not.) So I was very careful to get dressed. Nancy, I hope your back is feeling better!
I can say with out a doubt that I will no longer be shopping, instead I'm going to save my extra money for a monthly massage. Who couldn't use that?

I vote yes, for the music! I personally like to pick songs that either fit my mood for the day or the post etc... I think you might enjoy it :) Either way, I love your blog!

I am not a huge fan of being surprised by music on people's blogs. I too have had my fair share of being startled by music. I do like music though and have a music player on my blog but it only comes on if you push the play button. That way if someone wants to listen they can and if they don't care to they don't have to and it wont scare anyone!! So what I am saying is you can put music but you can set it so it wont play automatically when entering your site!! Hope that makes sense!!

I vote for no. It really annoys me when people add the music, also it may cause the page to load slower. Often i am listening to my own music. But hey, if you do add it, I can always turn my volume down !!! :)

I keep the volume on my laptop off, for that very reason!

But I say, if you want it, go for it. :) It's your blog, after all!

5 vote yes for music. People can always switch it off if they don't like it.
As for the massage... Sounds like bliss. I could do with one of those!

You make your blog what you want. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the music surprise but music is also a great way to express yourself. Go for it girl!

My vote would be a no too the musica, only because it always gives me a fright and I'm often listening to my own music while reading blogs. Having said that, this is your space to express yourself, so you should do what suites you.
As for the massage, heaven girl, I spend all my spare cash monthly on pedicures, facials and massages! And if you find a good therapist, hang onto her because they're few and far between!

Music on blogs is great... but not when you're reading at work. ; )

I've heard mixed reviews - and I have a music player on mine. However, although I don't love the idea of moving it to the top of the page - I might so people can turn it off if they want without scrolling all the way down.

That said, I think it is a very crutial part of healing!

Music is another way to express yourself. If there are songs that you feel are important to you and would like to share- then go for it. People can always turn the music off.
I am happy to hear about the massage. They are wonderful- good idea about saving to get one each month.
Peace and love to you.

Well, I don't particularly like music on people's blogs because of the "scare" factor, but it's YOUR blog, so you should do what you want!

Like one of your other readers wrote, you could set it so that the music only comes on when the reader wants it to...

I vote no for the music. I had a playlist on my blog for a while and every time I signed in I heard the same song. Bleh. I switched them around and added new things but it's just too difficult to keep up with...correction: I'm too lazy to keep up with it. Plus, a lot of my family complained about it.

YES~ but I love music! Like many have said you can make it so that the person who is reading your blog has to hit play before it comes on. Also if they don't like what you have playing or to prevent them from being scared as they blog hop they can cut their volume off. It is your space and if you want music... I say go for it! For many, music is used as a tool for recovering from grief or illness. The right music at these crucial moments can “comfort and soothe.”

I vote no for music. Especially annoying when there are 437 post on the page and you have to scroll down to the bottom to turn it off, or you open more than one music playing blog at a time, or someone has a YouTube video that needs audio but there are three music players in the background you have to find and turn off before you can watch the video.

I know this will be blog blasphemous, I love Bring the Rain, but avoid it because I know it has music on it, I have to be really in the mood to go through the process of getting there.

My computer also does a virus scan about 3 in the morning, waking itself up to check things, if I have a page open that has music and I've forgotten to shut off the sound, we get quite a startle.

I vote yes for the music - love the story!!! That is pretty funny!

Oh I am so jealous of your massage - I am 37 weeks along and NEED one so badly... I am so glad you have that 70 minutes of peace - you deserve it!

Love reading your blog - hope you don't mind me popping in every day!

I vote for no myself. Just because half the time - I'm "sneaking" at work to check people's blogs & when the music busts on - I'm busted!!!

Ohhhhh Im so jealous of your massage. I got a gift certificate for one back in June and I was saving it for when I was big and pregnant and hurting. WELL I waited too long cause now Im on bedrest and not allowed to go get one, lol.

I vote no for the music... it drives me nuts when I open a blog and it starts blaring at me. If there is a way you can put music on it but the person has to hit play in order to hear it I think that would be good!

I vote no on the music. I find it very annoying!

I do not have music on my blog. I thought about putting it on. I also agree it is your blog and you should do what you want. I have gone on blogs and I am trying to read them and I hear the music and I want to turn it off so I can really read what is in the blog. I think that is why I do not have it on mine yet. I do go to some blogs that have music because Alyce likes to listen to it.

Love your story. I have had everyone sleeping in the house and clicked on a blog and loud music has come on and I am trying to push the button to get it to stop before everyone wakes up.

I have never had a massage in my life. I have had people give them to me but not in a setting like a salon. I want to try that some day. I have neck and back pains from having Alyce. It would be nice.

I vote no, but its your blog. Do what you want. It wouldn't keep me from reading!

Sorry, I also have to vote no on the music. It's not usually a good surprise.

Sarah said...

I gotta vote no to music, or if you do, have it start out on pause and let someone hit play if they want to hear it. I only say this because I too have been scared to death by music when my speakers are too loud!

Mrs B said...

First, its your blog do what you want. For my humble opinion, I don't like music on blogs. I listen to the radio, mostly Glenn Beck, and I always have to pause the blog music.

I'm against the music player on blogs. Sometimes I'm listening to music on my computer and when I surf to a site with music- it's bizarre to have 2 songs overlapping.

If I'm not listening to music, I keep my volume off for that reason. I really never listen to what people put on their blogs.

But Jen had a good idea (or compromise)- put the player on, but set it so it only starts when/if you press play.

No music! I stopped reading one of my favorite blogs b/c it would blast music when I clicked on it. (my son turns up the sound during his games) Anyway, it drove me nuts. And I couldn't concentrate on what I was reading.

I say it is your blog so you are entitled to put the music on it if you want. I personally don't avoid blogs with music. There are times I really enjoy it and other times I just turn my volume off.

I'm not a big fan of music on blogs either. I'm just not ready for it and it kinda scares me. I love your new layout by the way!

Liz said...

I vote yes... it's a way to express yourself and depending on the music can be healing....

Patty said...

I say add the music. You can always remove it. I love to know what kind of music other people listen to.

Jennie said...

As I am probably the culprit of the obnoxious song mentioned, I vote a big fat old YES.

And I sometimes open the bring the rain blog just to hear the music. It soothes me.

Perhaps I need to change my song. I keep my volume turned completely off because even I don't want to hear it. ha ha. The obnoxious song just seems to suit me so darn well though.

Chris is making chicken soup tonight. sniffle sniffle.

I love seeing other's playlists & listening to some of their selections. I have a playlist on my blog, but I set it to where it doesn't automatically play when the page starts. Maybe try that & you can keep everyone happy!

I do ~not~ like music because I'm usually listening to my own music in headphones or out loud so when a blog starts playing, well, I have to search to turn it off. Annoying. And I rarely find a blogger who likes "my" music, so I ALWAYS have to turn it off.

Put a music thingy on it, but just don't have it auto start. That's an option!

heh on my massage experience. I'm still in SO much pain. All from putting on my pants. That's awesome that you thought of ME while getting dressed! :)

I vote no for the music, but mostly because I surf at work during my lunch hour and I'd have to stay away from your blog.

But as others have said, it's your blog and you should do what you want to make you feel better.

I do like the suggestion that it be a "click here to see what I'm in the mood for" and that would be a good compromise.

If you do go for music I'll just have to make sure I log on during non-work hours.
