Before I had arrived in Youngstown one of Shawn's two awards had arrived at the stadium. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about let me explain briefly. In March I was told that the Video Coordinator at Ohio State had nominated Shawn for the Big Ten Video Coordinator of the Year Award. Shawn and the coach from OSU got along great together and both helped each other when they needed it. Anyways a few weeks later I was shocked to find out that Shawn did in fact win the Big Ten Video of the Year Award. It was then brought to my attention that Shawn was then in the running for the National Video Coordinator of the Year Award since he had won the Big Ten. I thought that it was awesome that Shawn was again nominated. I however really didn't think he would 'win' because this was national and the best of the best Video Coordinators were now in this category. Not that I didn't think Shawn was deserving because I of course thought he was, I just didn't think it would be given to him. Well...I was wrong. A few weeks ago I found out from Coach Heacock the Head Football Coach at YSU that Shawn had indeed won the National Award as well. When Coach called to tell me I had tears in my eyes, happy tears, but a few tears non the less. I was so happy that Shawn was finally going to be recognized for all of his hard work and dedication to the game of football. It was a bitter sweet moment for me. I was so happy that he had won both awards, but at the same time so sad that he wasn't going to be able to accept the awards on his own. Coach and I decided that on my next visit to Youngstown we would do a little picture with the two of us and the awards.
Once I arrived in Youngstown only the football was at the stadium. We were told that the trophy would be arriving in two to three days. So the Football Operations Coach and I thought we would wait and take the picture once the trophy arrived. We waited and waited and as of yesterday the trophy still had not arrived. I always stop into the stadium on my way out of town to say good bye to the Coach's. Well, since the trophy for the National Award still had not been delivered yet we decided to take a quick picture with the two of us and the football so that something could be put up on their web page.
Coach Heacock giving me the football.Since the trophy is not at YSU yet a few of the coach's decided that they would like to present that to me at the season home opener in the fall. So in between the first and second quarters of the game I will go down on the field with the coaching staff and will be presented with the National Video Coordinator of the Year trophy as they tell a little of Shawn's story. I did fine yesterday being given the football, no tears at all. However, I think the possibility of tears during the opener is a pretty good shot. That will be a bitter sweet day, I'm almost sure of it.
So for now here are the two pictures of the football that I have. Once I receive the other award I will be sure to post a picture as well.
