Ok, I just realized that I'm getting "old". I know 30 (31 in November) isn't old, but it is old enough to have to get my shit together. What do I mean by this you ask?
What I'm talking about is try to change my lifestyle and become a healthier more health conscious person. Not that I'm entirely "unhealthy" but I could for sure become a healthier person. I've thought this for a while now, but the light bulb went off in my head a few days ago, making me realize it is time to get serious about my overall health.
Maybe my diet is what is making it hard for me to conceive. If that is the case I will gladly change things in my life to make this happen. "H" (that's what I'm going to refer to my husband as...he doesn't want his real name on here for some reason)
Anyways H and I have always tried to work out and eat healthy now and then. We will go good and strong for about a month and then stop, not work out and eat whatever we want, when we want to. This is what needs to change and it needs to change now. And besides if we make some of these changes now then when we do have our little baby, they will have a great healthy foundation to start their life off with as well. Makes sense doesn't it?
So starting tomorrow morning things are going to be changing in the Coin household. We always go for walks at night, but we are also going to start incorporating weights into our work out. We have a whole spare bedroom that is set up as the "gym" that we hardly ever use. We are going to start weight training again and getting stronger as we go. Before we got married 7 years ago, we lifted all the time. And if I do say so myself, we were both rather "buff" Now I know we are older now, but we both know that we can do this, and it will make us better healthier people in the long run.
Lifting, walking and using our elliptical machine is only a small part of our new lifestyle. I love to cook, but I usually make the same thing over and over again for dinners. I got on the computer and found a ton of new recipes that I'm going to start making. These are much healthier meals that I'm going to start making. Some examples are Couscous Chicken Salad, Lentil Soup, Whole Wheat Apple Bread, Bean and Broccoli Casserole and several other heart healthy recipes.
We are only going to eat whole grain breads and also start to incorporate more fiber into our diets. I've been reading all the great things that eating whole grains can do for you. Did you know that by eating whole grains it can actually help you to conceive? Who knew!! We are also going to start eating lots and I mean lots of fruits and veggies, and I don't mean the canned kind. I've found lots of new ways to prepare veggies. H and I really love to eat veggies, but we eat them the same way every night, so this should be exciting for us. We always eat fruit so that should be no problem.
I'm going to start cutting out red meat from much of our diet and start including more fish, and chicken. I HATE fish so this will be a big adjustment for me. We shall see how that goes. Anyone with any good fish recipes out there let me know.
Here is the biggie, well at least for me. I'm going to try my hardest to give up drinking my favorite drink in the whole wide world. I'm going to give up Diet Coke. Yup, you heard me right, I'm going to stop drinking Diet Coke. YIKES!!!! What the hell am I doing? I used to drink pop by the gallons every day. I've since cut way way way down. Now I only have one can with lunch and then maybe one or 2 glasses after dinner. But when I do finally get pregnant you can't drink it anyways, so I figure what the hell, we are changing other areas of our life why not stop the Diet Coke now too. Good Golly, wish me lots of luck on this one. I should mention that I also hate and I mean hate to drink water. But I know water is something that my body needs, so I will just suck it up and start drinking it. I've had 2 bottles so far today. Not bad if I say so myself. Granted I put Crystal Light in it, but hey it's still water! It's a start.
H and I hope that by doing this and "over hauling" the way we eat now will lead to a healthier lifestyle for both of us and more importantly it will make our family be healthier from the get go. And lets face it we could both stand to lose a few pounds. I'm not heavy my any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not skinny either. I could lose about 10-15 pounds and still be at a nice healthy weight for getting pregnant.
We also figure that by eating more healthy and working out on a regular basis will help to eliminate some of the stress we have been feeling lately. This is also something we can do together and hopefully have fun with, while at the same time getting healthy and encouraging and pushing each other at the same time.
Did I mention we are going to start doing Pilates again? We used to do Pilates in college and loved it. So I dug out the DVD's and are going to start doing that as well.
So hopefully this new lifestyle will work for us, we are both really excited to start this next phase of our life, both getting pregnant and becoming more healthy.
Here is to drinking my last Diet Coke and to a whole new way of life for the Coins.
I will keep you all updated.

It's a good move nevertheless!
