Jeggings?....Yes, Jeggings

I'm sure you have all seen the latest trends in jeans, a little something called a "jegging". Seriously, I did not make up the name, its jeans and a legging all in one. The best of both worlds right? I mean who doesn't love and want a good pair of jeans or a nice comfy pair of leggings all wrapped up in one pair of pants? Well, I will tell you...me that's who. I think the concept is totally ridiculous and I seriously want nothing to do with anything called a jegging, let alone to wear something on my body with that name. (or so I thought)

I do NOT consider myself a fashion expert by any stretch of the imagination. I would love to be, but I'm just not. Like I've said before I'm doing something crazy with an outfit if I change my necklace or earrings. I pretty much am a jeans and V-neck T-shirt kinda girl. As a matter of fact jeans and I have LOTS of them are about the only type of pants that I wear other than yoga pants or my oh so comfy flannel pajama pants. With that being said I do have my own little list of fashion "rules"
1). Never wear navy blue and black together. Okay, maybe that is just me but it drives me wild when I see this.
2)Once you reach a certain age, like any age over 21 you should not wear any type of pants with words or writing a crossed the butt. Really who wants to read words on your ass anyways?
3)Again this is just my opinion but I think if you have curves like I do you just should not wear leggings,"skinny" jeans, or jeggings because, well, they just aren't all that flattering and I think show off all the wrong things. Also, I think the age factor should come into play when thinking about buying jeggins, as in don't do it if you are over 21, okay, maybe 25 at the max.
Again, these are just my opinions, I don't mean to offend anyone or put anyone down in their fashion choices.

Just a little background on by body type. I do not consider myself "fat" or overweight by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not rail thin either. When it comes to jeans I typically wear a size 8 depending on the style but keep in mind I'm curvy. I have a rather big chest, kinda flat tummy (I'm working on getting it flatter) a really tiny waste, but then I have a butt and bigger thighs. So I have curves and I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all, but I also don't think I should be walking around in jeggings because of the curvy factor.

Well, last weekend I went shopping with a new girlfriend who happens to always look cute and have on the cutest/fashionable clothes and I'm not talking jeans and v-necks like me. Ha! She had on the cutest pair of jeans and I asked her where she got them, because well I love jeans and I always can find room for just one pair. Like 19 pairs isn't enough! To be fair they are in all different sizes and some of them I can't wear anymore, I think I only have about ten that I wear all the time. Okay, I digress. Anyways, she said they weren't jeans but they were jeggings. I swear to you I rolled my eyes in disgust. She went on to tell me they were the most comfortable things she had ever worn and that she loved them. Next, she told me that I should try on a pair, that I would fall in love with them and want a pair. I told her that I thought the concept of a jegging is totally ridiculous and that I would never ever try on a pair, let alone get a pair and wear them. Just was not going to happen, plain, and simple!

Well we shopped and each picked up a few things. Then we went to JC Penney's a store in which I rarely can find anything for me. Although I did get two super cute sweaters there for my birthday. It just so happens that this is the store she got her jeggings at. She kept telling me I should just try them on, and that I would love them. So, only to please her and give a good laugh to myself as I was trying them on, I decided to make her happy and try on a pair of the oh so popular jegging. I went to pick out my standard size 8 only to find they didn't come in numbered sizes but in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. Great! Now I was going to have to try on a pair of pants with a label of large because I knew there was no way that these tight, skinny pants were going to fit on my curvy bottom half. Nicole, said that the size she had was a medium, so I decided to start there. I went into the dressing room already cracking up at the thought of pulling jeggings up over my thighs. I was just about 100% sure they wouldn't even go over my calf, let alone thigh. I got them over my calf, kept pulling them up and got them over my thigh, uh...who would have thought? I got the so called jeggings pulled up all the way, tried on a long sweater with it, looked in the mirror and much to my surprise was 110% shocked and surprised at how they looked! I walked out of the dressing room and Nicole said, "See I told you!" with a big ole smile on her face. I was also happy and a little shocked because these pants that were supposed to be tight, were even a little big on me and a small would fit perfectly. They were actually very, very comfortable! I stood there looking at myself in the mirror and was kind of amazed. These so called jeggings things actually made my legs look tall and do I dare say "skinny" and it's not often that my thighs look skinny.

I hate to admit it but I totally caved and bought them! Damn, you Nicole!!! I had too, like I said they made my thighs look kinda skinny! You gotta do what you gotta do for skinny looking thighs! I have a few long sweaters and they look super cute with them! Here is the pair that I got

So what do you think? Cute or no? I know I totally at 33 years old broke my own fashion rule and now wear jeggings. However, I'm adding a number four to my fashion list and it is this...
4)If you are over the age of 25 and wear jeggins you MUST wear a long sweater or long shirt with them! MUST!!

With buying the jeggins it also made me have a shoe dilemma. You just can't wear "regular" shoes with jeggins because well, it just looks silly. You either have to wear heels, which I don't do well, those ballet flat shoes, which I can't wear because they hurt my feet, or those cute little boots that everyone is wearing that you can pull up over the jeans. So onto Target Nicole and I went and there I found these cute and comfy black boots to wear with my jeggins.

Once again do you think they are cute?

I'm 100% certain that at 33 years old I will be oh so cool and fashionable now with my recent purchase of the jegging and these little boots. Yeah right!!!

First off, hi. I've been reading your blog for a long whlie and don't think I've ever commented before.
Secondly, I was totally nodding my head and agreeing with everything you were saying about jeggings. I rolled my eyes when I saw them in the store and thought they were ridiculous. Then I kept reading and my first thought was "oh no, she caved!" But if they make your thighs look as good as you say they do, I may have to try some out. If I can get it past my sister:P

Um, when said you went shopping with a new girlfriend who always looks cute and fashionable...I thought, did I go shopping with Jen recently? Hehe...

I don't actually own a pair of jeggings, yet. Except, a couple weeks ago when I posted about my new "Jean Leggings" from The Gap, everyone thought they were jeggings, but they actually aren't. Gap does have jeggings, but they also have jean leggings, and skinny jeans.

Anywho. I've tried on a few pairs of jeggings, but I'm yet to find any that actually fit me well and in a color I like. I'll have to keep up the search though!

I don't think you're too old at all for jeggings, and cute boots! If you're too old then I'm too old:) I must say, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't take an actual picture of yourself in your new boots and jeggings for this post!

I also am built like you. I recently caved, and bought a pair myself.lol I wear them with long sweaters or long trendy button down shirts with a wide belt at the smallest part of my waist. Also I wear them with shoes that look just like the ones you posted. I'm 23 yrs old.lol

I have to agree with you on- if you have a curvy figure WEAR LONG SHIRTS with the Jeggings! So I think is attractive if you wear it the best way for whatever figure you have. Like myself, No Way will you catch me wearing a short shirt with my big butt and thighs sticking out in a Big Time
NON-Flattering way.lol

oh man. i agree with you 100 % about all of your fashion annoyances.

dark blue and black? lame.
skinny jeans on ANY body type look awful in my opinion. the only way that i think skinny jeans or leggings should be worn is with a pair of boots that bulk up the foot and ankle area to counterbalance the hips.

i have told my nieces and my sister that the ONLY way skinny jeans will ever make it onto my body is if i find some cute boots that i cannot live without.

so, i say YOU GO GIRL! :)

Dear Kindred Widow,

I am IN LOVE with your jeggings post! I found your blog through the "lester lou and the aarons too" blog. Someone sent it to me as I am one of those widow people. What a great club we've got, huh? :)

Anyway, I have always been opposed to jeggings as my body type is a bit larger and curvier. And I know I should definitely stay away from them. But seriously, the pics you posted were cute and I'm so glad you found the right ones! Thanks so much for your sense of humor. I'm so sorry for your loss and then having to lose your baby too. I wish I would have been pregnant when my husband died, but perhaps the stress and grief would have led me down the same path that you took.

I hope things are becoming more manageable for you. I'm coming up on my second year and it has been getting easier. It's not a whole lot of fun, but bless you for blogging and know you've lifted my spirits today!

Take care,
Dawn
